If you’ve been following my uploads and twitter updates from NAMM last week, you know that last Friday I had a chance to actually sit down with the Beat Kangz and mess around with the beat thang hardware.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to get any video.
We were scheduled to hook back up the next day to get some video but it didn’t work out, both myself and the beat kangz had a full schedule at NAMM.
All I did was take this one photo in passing as we were chatting lol.
It’s real, they’ve updated the build quality to all metal, making the machine pretty sturdy.
Fear not, I will have plenty of videos for you when I get the thang in my hands….
Luckily for us Peter Kirn from createdigitalmusic.com did get some video of it, so check it out, and lemme know what you think.

yo man, you ever use Intakt from Native Instruments?
Don’t you think a realtime pitch shifting and time-stretch function for the keygroups in the beat thang would be dope??????

would be sick. I know they are supposed to be adding time-stretch to it, just not sure how it will work. If it’s realtime that will be SICK

This machine is really nice Rev and Aja! (awesome video!) I see the difference from just a year ago. Love the new display, and love the overall look. Looks solid and rugged and the lights on the side…didn’t notice that before. Suwweeet!
Nice find Saintjoe… I’ll have to share this video with my blog readers! Beautiful unit! I love the way the Beat Kangz are utilizing the constructive feedback.
The music production industry had better brace itself because ‘The Beat Thang’ is on the way!!!! And for those that aren’t ready… oh well the ship still sails…

Trust me…I played with that joint, it’s SOLID. It’s not too heavy, but you definitely don’t feel like you’re holding a toy…great move to listen to potential customers and make it more sturdy.
It’s the perfect size to be portable as well…I wanted to take it home with me right then…I knew I had a plane flight, I wanted to test it on there lol.

Man, I was just about to sell my 4000 to get maschine…..Ima hold on to get this one man. Seems to be a real hardware unit, something that the maschine lacks……and it has the midi, instrument/xlr input!!!!! I was holding out on beat thang until they made so it would work as a vst……I hope they hurry up with this. Im fiending!!!!!! Im more excited about this than when I saw the 4000 when it first came out.

I think this is going to be a good machine and AKAI better look out. This is because they are doing what consumers want and I believe they will succeed if the price is low enough and they make all the changes they are saying.

Only thing left to make is an iPod/iPhone app. The commercial tag line: Beat Thang, there’s an app for that. LOL…

they already have an iphone app, it’s called playa thang, but it only plays back your tracks and you can mix them up and such. It’s isn’t a full beat making app like the beat thang.

What type of outlets will come with it? xlr or in/out sockets? You think it will replace that 4000?

they are balanced 1/4″ outputs, the input is a combo xlr/stereo 1/4″ input

Now we’re talking. Real show and prove on what this machine can do. Which is why more level headed people took a wait and see attitude toward this product and it’s creators. At least the discussion over @CDM was one the first real back and forths I’ve seen people engage in about Beat Thang. Still a little polarized, but good to see people talking about the actual product. Early reports on stability and quality
are all I’ll need before getting one. I still think it looks like if Alienware made ASR-X’s. Maybe I can pay the custom shop to NOT put lights on the front (lol)

is the hardware any better than the software program in any way
[Reply]
February 1st, 2010 at 12:13 am
the hardware is fully portable and runs on a battery, plus it gives you a hands on feel.
Comes with the same sounds, everything done on software works on hardware and everything done on hardware works in the software
